It’s interesting how the major network stations are changing up the way they present shows, basically copying Cable television programming with mid-season breaks and staggering their new shows in the Spring.

It will be very interesting to see how they try to keep up with the quality of Cable TV shows, because truthfully, and at least in my opinion, Premium and Basic Cable really do have better shows than the major Networks. Between now and say, April, there’s going to be a lot of new shows to watch, and a lot of them also ending their seasons. Here’s some I like, and some others that are new that I don’t know if I like or not. Basically, this column is filled with ramblings, speculations, and unasked for random opinions.

American Horror Story: Asylum (AHSA) is wrapping up this week, which makes me sad, but man has it ever been one CRAZY season. There’s nothing on tv like AHSA. It’s just nuts, and I’m already thinking about what they’re going to do to up the ante for  Season 3.

The Office is ending this season, about 3 years too late from my point of view, but I have to say this last season has been really, really funny. The funniest it’s been since Carrell was on it.

Justified‘s back on and I am happy for that, because not only do I have an extreme man crush on Timothy Olyphant, but Walton Goggins as well, and they’ve brought in Ron  Eldard this year, which is AWESOME. Regardless of all that, the show is just rock solid in so many ways that it’s really easy to get excited for it.

Archer has resurfaced and for that I am very glad. It’s such a great show with some truly talented actors and some of the funniest jokes on tv. Actually, I don’t think I’ve laughed as hard as I do during Archer since Arrested Development was on air.

Ah yes, Arrested Development is coming back, but to Netflix, releasing all episodes at once. I think I’m going to have to cash in a sick day when that happens, because AD is one of the greatest sitcoms to every be created, (TRUTH), and I won’t be able to just watch one here and there, knowing full well that they will all be on there, just waiting to be watched!

Also, The Walking Dead picks up very soon, and the big battle will be brewing at the Prison. Readers of the comic knows what’s up, but as we’ve seen they don’t always follow the comic entirely, (just look at how bad of a character Michonne is on tv compared to her comic book version), so I’m sure there will be some surprises.

There’s also some new Kevin Bacon show starting which I originally had thought was going to be based on the Nolan film of the same name. Of course, it’s not, and that was a dumb joke.

There are some other shows starting that are based on movies. Hannibal and Bates Motel. My first impression of both of those is UGH and UGHER. Yeah, not really interested.

Bates Motel

I think that the success of AHSA has helped to lead to these abominations, but I highly, highly doubt they will be able to ever match the crazy of AHSA, even if anything I’m speculating on is true! Hannibal just basically sounds like Dexter with a cannibal to me. They seem to have some decent casting going on with both, but really…haven’t we had enough prequel treatment in the movies, now we have to try to bring it to television, too?

There’s a new show called CULT that sounds pretty cool. Very meta as it is based on a show within a show, and is from the creator of Farscape. Basically, a reality show that follows a Cult, but the cultists might be up to no good in…uh, reality.

Truth be told, I think SYFY, (still hate that new name), is the channel I watch the most. A new show called Continuum has started, although it’s already played out in Canadia. The first episode was alright, and it shows promise, so we’ll see on that.

Alphas was cancelled which pisses me off. Total cliffhanger ending last season and now…well, I guess we’ll never know what now.

Haven, one of my favorites, also had a big cliffhanger, but thankfully it was picked up for another season, which I suspect will be the last, which is good, because I don’t like it when shows go longer than they should, such as the aforementioned Office.

Defiance sounds interesting, as it runs in conjunction with an MMO. I don’t know much about the show, but it doesn’t start until April anyway, so I guess I have time to learn more, and maybe play the game, too. While I think the joining of the two mediums is a good idea, I don’t want to see them relying on it. You should be able to watch the show on its own and vice versa with the game. Hopefully they know that and give a good viewing experience to those that aren’t interested in games. You shouldn’t have to go to other sources to fully understand plot points and characters.

Warehouse 13 should be showing up around that time, too. The first 2 seasons were absolutely stellar, but the last have been kind of so-so. I mean, the show has always been on the goofy side, but the characters are so well done that it’s easy to look past that. I hope they are able to recapture the magic of the show from the earlier seasons.

That’s about all I can think of off the top of my head, at least for most of the shows I watch. Well, maybe not most, but this is a good start, and I’ll be bringing up more as they come to me, some I’ll go into more detail than others.

Now give me your brain. What shows are you watching? What shows are you excited about returning, or what new shows will you be tuning in to view?
