Rise

One day you’re a reporter going after the next big story, the next you find yourself waking up inside a morgue, alive but not the same. You’re undead, and you’re pissed. That’s the premise of this movie. I tell you what if it wasn’t for Lucy Liu being cast as the lead I may not have even pressed play. But lucky for you I did, now you can read about how I survived.

"Listen here you old fart, we are going to make this movie if it kills us."

Its not that its a bad movie, its just that it is a horrible movie. Actually I take that back. It is a fine movie, it just has no drive, no emotion, no edge of your seat suspense, and well to be honest not much of a story either.  I think they had the right idea on the basis of the movie. It could have been cool. It was different, it had what we all look for in a Vamp movie, blood, fangs, boobs, and more blood. But for Pete’s sake they didn’t even bite into people they cut them first then just drank it, how lazy is that, its like the formula for the entire film.

Bite you? what? and what if I loose a fang?

I don’t mean to really beat this thing up, as I will admit I never shut it off and I watched it in one sitting, but I just sat there the whole time hopeing that they would do something with it. I’ll give you some of the positives this movie had going for it, the things that kept my hand off the remote.

Lucy Liu for starters is one of my favorite actresses, I don’t know why but I just love her presence, but I can tell you what, if it wasn’t for her and Michael Chiklis being in this movie, it wouldn’t have even been made.  Michael Chiklis is great, well,  he is a great in the cop roles anyway, not sure if I can remember him doing anything else. But regardless the two of these working together actually made this movie watchable. Along with the fact that there was blood, fangs, and boobs, and well that makes it watchable as well.

So your saying your check cleared? Thats a relief...

I guess I should tell you a little about the movie. Lucy’s character Sadie is a reporter doing an undercover story on the underground scene. Little did she know that she was playing with the undead.  She is raped and killed by a lead vampire Bishop and his, um… hot redheaded girl vamp. Sadie is then stuffed into the morgue locker.  She awakens to find that she is now part of the same breed that killed her. She is a vampire.  She runs around town killing vampires gaining information on where Bishop is. Soon Sadie runs into detective Clyde Rawlins (Michael Chiklis).  They team up to find Bishop and put an end to the madness. There is a little more to the story than that really, but I will leave it up to you to decide if you want to take the time to watch it. Oh yeah and did I mention the movie has blood, fangs and boobs to? Ok, just checking.
