Speed Racer (2008 film)
I watched it, I watched all of it! Now what do you think I’ll say? Did I like it, or will I pin it to the back of the fireplace to watch it burn? Well hit the link and find out for yourself.
I freaking loved it!! It was a visual delight! Seriously! It was made in a fashion that was very niche, but if it fell in your niche, then, well, you loved it to!
I’ve been doing some very heavy thinking about the movies and shows I watch. I have come to realize that, well, every movie has its place. So maybe you didn’t like it, maybe everyone hated it but you watch it every week. Each movie has its place. Each film spent time as somebody’s baby, nurtured, cared, and raised to a full length feature. What happens to that full length feature is up to the people who come in contact with it.
That was a long winded way of saying, while not everyone loved the movie, most gave it bad reviews, I found the movie very entertaining.
I look serious, right? cause I'm trying to be taken seriously here...
Actors Emile Hirsch (who plays Speed) and Christina Ricci (Trixi) did a fine job of drawing you in from the amazing scenery to actually listen to some of the lines. John Goodman and Susan Sarandon who played Speed’s mom and pop did a great job as well, they made the family seem a true family, John Goodman is always fun to watch and Susan was a great “mom”. The chimp and brother offered some comedic breaks in the movie, but I didn’t really care for those parts as much, but I did understand why they where there. They were there for the same reason some when watching an anime show you are thinking to yourself, WTF is going on … this isn’t part of the story. Then it cuts and gets back to it. Sometimes its funny sometimes its confusing but its always there.
If any of you have watch any Japanese anime then you saw basically a live action version of some of those shows in this movie. That is exactly what I feel they were going for. A totally over the top live action anime with fabulous CGI and what other character to use than one most of us all know and love, Speed Racer.
Kudos to the Wachowski brothers for the great job on this film. While some people hated it and some people loved it. I took it for what it was, and it was fun. Love me or hate me for saying it, but tell me what you thought of the movie, good, bad, or indifferent? Hopefully if you heard it was bad this post will at least prod you to at least give it a go. Pop some popcorn and kick back for a fun little visual ride.
