Paranormal Activity

Paranormal Activity has been causing quite a buzz, I just got home from the theater and thought I would tell you all about what I thought.

ok read along……… if you dare…….

So I saw a preview for this movie quite a while back. I had no idea how well it had done in the film festivals but I was hoping for a theatrical release. I think they were to.

The movie is shot via a handheld camera much like the Blair Witch movie was done, that being the first one that comes to mind anyway. It was not quite as bouncy as I was thinking it would be witch was a relief as its tough to watch a movie like that on the big screen.  I skipped dinner before I went just in case.

The movie had 4 people in it that I counted. The main two being Katie and Micah the couple that live in the house.  I don’t want to give to much of the movie away with out giving you this chance first…….

………… Possible Spoilers Ahead…………

if this is so scary then why are we smiling?

 Ok you had your chance.

Katie is being haunted by a demon! She has been haunted by this creature since she was 8 years old.  That’s the movie right there.

Serioulsy thought they took that one item and really did a fine job making it truly believable. The pacing of the movie was really good. The breakdown of the two charachters was paced perfectly with the situations they were put in and well the acting was .. Pretty good. I thought that the girl who played Katie did a fine job, and Micah did a perfect job as the protective boyfriend who obviously didn’t know what the hell he was doing.

I have been a fan of the paranormal for quite some time, and am a fan of a lot of those types of shows on t.v. like Paranormal State or Ghost Hunters. Now these shows aren’t like “something happens every show” type shows and I really felt that way about this movie as well as the first hour was filled with thumps and bangs.  But as it went on and as the big ol boyfriend kept digging and digging, well the problems got worse and worse.

I don’t know if I would go on record and say it was the scariest movie ever, I don’t even know if I would go on record and say it was scary at all. As it did do a very good job of portraying the haunting that they were encountering, it didn’t give the demon any kind of character to associate with, it didn’t really give you much all in one sitting to really scare the hell out of you. It teased and then it teased and it teased then it jumped and it was over.

I did some follow up on the movie via the “world wide web” and found that there were showings of this movie with different endings. I got to searching to find out what they were and BOTH of them would have been better than the one they gave us.. So thank you HOLLYWOOD for making sure you tell us what we think we can handle!!

I am very proud of the film makers though as they did a fantastic job of making this movie, they obviously did some research and they never went to far over the top, keeping the movie very beliveable but they should have have us just a little more in the end. I would have loved to see the one where the cops shoot her. That would have been perfect! But im sure that they will have them all on the DVD. I just hope they signed all their contracts right when they got this movie to the big screen cause there is some money being made and I hope they get their share. Now lets just hope they don’t spend it trying to make a sequel!

Hello.

I would like to put a link to your site on my blog roll if you want to do the same for mine. It would be a good way to build up both of our readerships.

thank you.

Where I saw the movie, I saw the ‘Cop Ending’ and I thought it was very weak. Still, it makes more sense than her slitting her own throat, (why would the demon do that if it was wanting her for all those years), and while the ‘Ringu’ ending you saw isn’t exactly original, it made more sense. I read that the ‘Cop Ending’ is the true original ending. I’ve also read there are something like 5 different endings he shot, very smart of the filmmaker to do! I’m sure we’ll see them all on DVD.

My big problem with the movie was the ridiculous footage of the previously possessed Diane. The fact that she gnawed off her own arm was the silliest thing I’ve seen in a movie trying to keep their film grounded in reality via a documentary style. The Priests couldn’t hold her head? PLEASE. They would have been far better served to just show a picture of Diane and read about how she died mysteriously after the exorcism. Also, to claim that a Priest smuggled out the footage was also a bit on the ridiculous side, but nowhere near as ridiculous as the thought of someone eating their own arm!
